NABIS thanks its conference sponsors
The National Association of State Head Injury Administrators (NASHIA) and the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS) have announced plans to hold a Joint Meeting on October 5-8, 2010, entitled Brain Injury Partnerships: NASHIA & NABIS in the Twin Cities.
An educational planning committee comprised of nationally recognized multidisciplinary leaders from the brain injury field has developed an integrated educational program that promises to be of interest to researchers, clinicians, administrators and advocates for persons with brain injury and their families.

Building on the respective foundations of our already successful annual meetings, the 2010 Joint Meeting of NASHIA & NABIS will be one of the most significant brain injury conferences ever held in North America. This four-day, multi-track event will cover a wide range of brain injury topics including medical best practices, rehabilitation, research, life-long living, pediatrics and advocacy.

This unique full day session will address the challenges in treating and providing services to the homeless, prison populations, and those with substance abuse and co-morbid neurological / psychiatric challenges. All registered conference attendees are invited to participate in the Joint Meeting Job Fair at this year's conference at no extra charge. The job fair is being held in light of the challenging economic times and NABIS' mission to promote the development and success of professionals who serve individuals with disability following brain injury.
IF YOU WISH TO POST A JOB OPENING, please bring five copies of each job announcement (multiple announcements are welcome) to the conference registration table. They will be posted on the Job Announcement Board. Each announcement must be printed single-sided on 8 ½ by 11 inch paper. Announcements will be listed according to the type of position being offered. Please be sure to include the job title, the name of your company / organization, a brief description of the position, who to contact during the conference about the position (including appropriate cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses), and who to contact post-conference.
IF YOU ARE SEEKING A JOB, please bring five copies of your full curriculum vitae or resume, each copy individually stapled and three-hole punched to the conference registration table. An optional one-page brief biographical sketch to summarize your interests and experiences is also recommended. Be sure to indicate the type(s) of position(s) you are seeking. These materials will be placed in binders for prospective employers to review. Be sure to include appropriate contact information on each document.
The Joint Meeting will take place at the beautiful Hilton Minneapolis Hotel. The Hilton Minneapolis hotel located in the heart of downtown Minneapolis connects you by skyway to the Minneapolis Convention Center and the financial district. The deadline for submitting an abstract for the conference has now past. NABIS is please to announce that a record number of abstracts were received for the 2010 Joint Meeting.
All accepted abstracts from the 2010 Joint Meeting of NABIS and NASHIA will be published in the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation.
NABIS values presentations that highlight current and best practices, including information that compliments the Joint Meeting's topical themes including: basic research (animal and human), medical/clinical research (including acute care and rehabilitation), and post acute care (including education, life-long living and vocational issues). Also encouraged are innovative approaches to brain injury assessment, treatment, intervention, rehabilitation, advocacy and public policy initiatives.
Guidelines for Oral Presenters
Unless otherwise noted, all abstracts accepted for oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length, including 2 minutes Q & A.
Guidelines for Poster Presenters
All posters should fit within a 4 x 4 foot area. Posters exceeding this size will not be displayed. All poster presenters should be available to answer questions regarding their research during the published poster viewing times.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Seaton Foundation, NABIS has established the Charles W. Haynes Fellowship. The fellowship recognizes promising new professionals that best promote the NABIS mission of advancing brain injury services and treatment through clinical, research and/or policy initiatives. The Fellowship recipient will receive a cash award of $1,250, free registration at this year’s NABIS general conference, will be formally recognized to the full body of the conference, and will present his / her work at a specially recognized session during the general conference. This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and the North American Brain Injury Society.
